Paris Pastry Crawl

Indulge in Parisian a Pastry Crawl

Paris, the city of love, lights, and... pastries! If there's one thing Parisians know how to do exceptionally well, it's baking. Join me on a decadent journey through the cobblestone streets of Paris as we embark on a pastry crawl, sampling delights from four renowned patisseries some might argue and say these are the best four in all of Paris. Get ready to tantalize your taste buds and awaken your senses.

1. Stohrer: A Taste of Tradition

Our first stop takes us to the historic Stohrer, the oldest pastry shop in Paris. Established in 1730, this is about 50 years before the United States was founded! This iconic bakery has been delighting Parisians with its exquisite pastries for nearly three centuries. Think about that, that’s a lot of practice! As we step inside, the aroma of freshly baked goods is divine. You might think the pastries display case look more like jewelry at frist glance.

Here, we indulge in their signature Baba au Rhum, a juicy and boozy rum-soaked cake that melts in the mouth. The delicate balance of sweetness and rum-infused decadence is truly unparalleled. We also tried Raspberry Tart made with a sweet almond paste, almond cream and raspberry marmalade.

2. Bo & Mie

Next on our itinerary is Bo & Mie, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Paris. Known for their innovative twists on classic pastries, Bo & Mie takes the humble croissant to new heights with their Raspberry Croissant. Picture this: a golden-brown croissant filled with luscious raspberry compote, topped with a dusting of powdered sugar. Each bite is a burst of tangy sweetness, perfectly complemented by the buttery layers of pastry.

3. Mamiche: Modern Artistry in Pastry (closed on sunday)

As we continue our journey, we find ourselves at Mamiche, a contemporary bakery that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation. Here, the pastries are not just treats for the taste buds but also works of art for the eyes. We indulge in their famous Pain au Chocolat, a flaky pastry filled with rich, molten chocolate that oozes with every bite. The combination of buttery pastry and velvety chocolate is simply divine.

4. Du Pain et des Idées: A Slice of Parisian Heaven (open on weekdays)

No pastry crawl in Paris would be complete without a visit to Du Pain et des Idées. Nestled in the vibrant Canal Saint-Martin neighborhood, this charming bakery exudes rustic charm and authenticity. Here, we sample their legendary Pistachio-Chocolate Escargot, a spiral-shaped pastry filled with creamy pistachio frangipane and decadent chocolate. The contrast of nutty pistachio and indulgent chocolate creates a flavor sensation that leaves anyone craving more.

As our pastry crawl comes to an end… but it’s always here for more! I AM SO FULL AND HAPPY!, this got me to reflect on the culinary treasures I discovered, each patisserie has offered me a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Parisian pastry culture and pursuit of excellence. So the next time you find yourself in the City of Light, be sure to embark on your own pastry crawl and experience the magic of Paris, one delicious bite at a time.

Let me know what you find!
